Pompano OK’s $24M for Beach Parking Garage

A $19 million parking garage near the Pompano Beach pier got the City Commission’s nod Tuesday night — a first step in developing the city’s eastern edge into a draw with shops and restaurants.
A financing deal that could potentially raise $24 million for the 609-spot parking garage will go up for final approval at the commission’s April 28 meeting. The financing is $5 million more than the projected garage’s cost, just in case the project exceeds cost projections, said Suzette Sibble, the city’s finance director.
Tom Terwilliger, a resident and former City Commission candidate, pointed to public garages that cost a lot less, such as Coral Springs’ garage of a similar size that’s going to cost $8.1 million.
