Every year, mayors across the country give state of the city speeches that, much like the State of the Union address, highlight their priorities and vision for the year and increasingly mayors are focusing on local solutions that address national challenges.
State of the Cities is a first-of-its-kind report that benchmarks the top issues that mayors are talking about and the factors driving those priorities. In its sixth year, State of the Cities analyzes more than 150 annual speeches given by mayors from cities, towns and villages of diverse populations and geographic regions.
The report ranks and discusses 10 main topic areas, and while economic development and infrastructure continue to be top priorities for cities, mayors are increasingly exhibiting leadership on more nuanced issues.
In this report, you will learn:
- The top issues mayors care about in 2019
- Emerging local trends
- How a sampling of cities are tackling critical issues
